Which room are you looking at arranging furniture in? I would look online at Pinterest or even in a furniture store or their website for ideas. Usually you don't want the room to be overcrowded, so I would remove pieces until it looks functional. I would also maybe try physically moving pieces until they look right or try cutting out pieces of paper in the shapes of your furniture and moving them around your kitchen table until it looks nice.
without seeing a layout of the room or photo we can only guess as to how best to help you out but here is some info that may be helpful

Scour magazines and websites for a room with a similar floor plan . Then you can mimic what you find.
Hi Robin. I watch a lot of Home and Garden shows. Here's a cpl ideas of decorating a living room: Any money spent should be spent on neutral furniture. That way you can change your decor often by filling in with less expensive items like pillows, drapes, art work, rugs, etc. If you have an area rug, All front legs of furniture should be on the rug. You can use one large item for a focal point, don't use a bunch of little knick-knacks, it only looks messy and unorganized. And, lastly, for drama, use potted floor plants and put an up-light under them. Doing this casts shadows across the wall and ceiling and makes quite a statement. I got my up-lights from Menard's for approx. $12. I hope this info helps you decorate your home. Good luck Robin. I wish you well.
Less is more if you are going for a professional look. Create a conversation area where you can speak with someone without craning your neck. An example is a loveseat opposite or at a right angle to a couch with an ottoman or coffee table that both can use. A lamp for reading, a throw for warmth and a couple soft pillows on each couch or loveseat. If you look online (HGTV for example), see what draws you in. Can you see yourself curling up on the couch, visiting with company, or just hanging out? Find what works for you. Good luck and stay safe!
A trip to a high end furniture store can give you some ideas about presentation. They make you feel comfortable with their groupings.
