New BBQ Backsplash
Our back porch was in need of a deep cleaning, a BBQ upgrade and freshening up. From dusty upholstered outdoor furniture to stains on the concrete/slate floor, it needed some love. To see more about this entertaining space, click here.
The backsplash to the BBQ was stucco and every time we used the grill, the grease would coat it. It was impossible to clean off. So we decided to add new tile.
Before the tile could be added, we covered the bumpy textured stucco and the window reliefs in Durock cement board.
This beautiful tile is in keeping with the historic nature of our home.
Once the cement board installation was complete, tiling began next.
The cement board is applied the entire width of the backsplash.
What a huge improvement as the tiles brighten up the backsplash.
Spacers ensure the tile is laid properly and for future grout.
The tile is edged with slate pieces, to match the existing slate countertop.
Here is the completed backsplash. Now when we barbecue, we are able to easily wipe any grease or splatters off the tile.
Updating the backsplash was the first of many projects on the back terrace. To see the completed area, check out my blog post here.
