You can purchase new stair treads of wood at home supply centers. You can stain and either use construction glue or screw to the old step.

Add wood to the tread area. You can use actual treads but if it’s interior, consider cutting boards, like 1x12, to fit and stain.

Having a visual might be helpful to be able to offer the best guidance .....to a help find the best suggestions or potential solution for your problem.
Wood works best. Linoleum (vinyl) will telegraph through any texture in the steps and look worse.
Since they are new, I would approach the manufacturer to find out if they make a kit that works with your steps. Stay safe!
