Apply a pre-emergent for crabgrass before ground temps reach 45 degrees F (once forxythia have bloomed, it's usually too late).
For post emergent application, a product called Tenacity is most effective. You'll find videos on You Tube, showing homeowner use of this product.

A pre-emergent every year! I don't think there is a way to actually get rid of it for good, just keeping it under control.
Boiling water, boiling water with Epsom salt or vinegar, then dig out when dead.

Hello the easiest way I found is a tool that’s no longer being sold unfortunately called the weed popper it is a foot operated weeding tool that pops crabgrass right out of the ground. If you happen to see one at a garage sale or thrift store I would suggest considering purchasing it.

Hi Bob. We moved into our current house 3 yrs ago and the lawn was a mess. We pulled the crab grass (and other weeds) out by hand. Since then my husband has used Scott's 4-step weed and feed. He uses a walk-behind spreader to apply it which insures nice even passes. He only puts it on the front lawn because we have kids and dogs using the back yard. We are very happy with results.
