Hi Marsha. I have a raised garden and I love it because it's easy to weed and maintain. My sons built it for me several years ago. They used treated landscaping timbers. It's 4 timbers long and 2 timbers wide. Once they had the structure complete they laid weed fabric down. They also ran the weed fabric up all the sides too. They filled it with a mixture of one-third soil, one-third manure and one-third sand. The sand is for retaining moisture. Once I plant the garden in the Spring, I feed a soaker hose in and around all the plants. I water the soil, not the leaves. My garden has given me some awesome harvests. Right now I have tomatoes galore. I love to share what I grow. Marsha, I hope you can build and enjoy your own raised garden. Good luck.

For a really simple raised garden (but maybe not the prettiest) you could use concrete blocks. Use them to make a garden area, and then fill it with soil.
Or, you could purchase a Keter patio raised garden for less than $100. I have one on my patio, and love it! You can see my patio garden on my blog.
