You will either have to completely cover the floor with new sub flooring or remove the soft spot and replace that with new sub flooring. I would use 3/4 plywood. Hope that helps, good luck!

Find out what is causing the soft spot. Is it from a water leak? Fix that first, then remove the wood that is rotting and put in a new sub floor piece. You will probably have to refloor the entire floor if you have vinyl. Try tiles next time.

Without removing the flooring, your best best would be to install new sub flooring from underneath. Most of the sub flooring is either particle board or OSB. Particle board crumbles easily if exposed to water. OSB will also over time, but not as easily or quicky. You could try putting new plywood on the underside if it is just a small area.
thanks

Hi! We used to own a mobile home that we turned into a rental. One of the tenants didn't tell us about a leak until the kitchen floor was ruined. We worked from the inside, peeling off the flooring and then cutting out the subfloor. We replaced the subfloor and insulation and then the floor. It took a couple of days. Be sure the cause is addressed before doing all that work. Stay safe!
