Help I need a faux mantle that will slip onto
The one that is there is not removable without major construction. It is 48 x about 4-5" I would like one that will be deeper than that, can't fit much on there now. And one that looks like reclaimed wood big and beamish. I can't afford the prices in Amazon although the one in there would be perfect with a little modification. Also would have to have thin piece at each end that goes back about 6 inches previous owner made a mess of it for anyone who didn't want his ugly box mirror that took over half the mantle and the mantle is also very thin. Hard to explain there is a mirror boxish thing that is 6" deep, that he set on top of the mantel and took over 6" of the top.
Think some thing like this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07V2JRHBX/ref=crt_ewc_title_dp_3?ie=UTF8&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&th=1
IDEAS?? Please.

Hello Lori,
If you are not up to it yourself, call in a Carpenter to make one for you. He will be able to make it to your own choice of look. Cut out pictures of Fire Surrounds you like, to show the type of thing you have in mind. Ask for a price to do the work including installation ( Probably only a few side screw fixings which could be covered up with a trim). Also ask how long it will take! He/she will make up a framework and clad it, Add a Mantle and a Hearth if required! It will fit right over your existing. Best wishes.
You may be able to make a floating shelf out of reclaimed wood that would fit over the existing mantle. Here's a link on making a floating shelf, just think larger and reclaimed wood:

You could build your own with wood and slip it over the old one. If you can provide us a picture of your existing mantle we can help you further!
Take the measurements of your current mantle and draw it out to scale; then measure and also draw out a mantle that you would like to have replace the one you have attached to the fireplace. A caprenter can create a "rectangular box" to fit over the attached mantle quite easily if provided the correct measurements.
