Looks like you question was cut off, please repost.
I have heard that this is a good alternative to traditional paint, but have no experience with it.

There is always the chance of the plastic finish cracking or peeling over time. Wood moves with temp changes plastic does not. A good paint finish is better as paint will flex with a clear coat applied. An epoxy paint finish is another solution. Thermofoil is a plastic finish bonded to cheaper wood or MDF and has been known to crack and peel. Laminate is bonded to plywood that does not move as much to temp changes but can delaminate over time. I personally would not go with a sprayed on plastic finish unless it came from the factory which uses infrared heat to bond it with a warranty. Also if you want to repaint in the future it may pose a problem
Interesting, never heard of doing that. While in theory and premise, it sounds good for easy cleaning, but it's hard to know how it would hold up. Seems to me it might dull or scratch. Ask the painter for references of other folks who've had it done and talk to them.
Hi Susan, If the painter wanted to finish the cabinet with a clear coat after painting or is he looking to use a plastic finish instead of painting? You can definitely use a clear coat on top of the paint for extra protection.
Here's a post that shows what he maybe should be doing that might help - https://www.familyhandyman.com/project/how-to-spray-paint-kitchen-cabinets/
Hello Susan, it is just another type of protective coating, it may have a tint to it and only require one coat with built in sealer.
Hi! Personally, I would rather have paint and clear sealer. I would want to see examples of the finished product before agreeing. Good luck!
An epoxy pour over the cabinets or is the painter looking for a heavy sealer? Look into Envirotex.
Hi Susan, can you ask your painter to share a sample of the finish? We "plastic coated" our open shelves and I'm super happy with the look. It's hardwearing and easy to clean
What kind of finish is it
