Peroxide & water.. spray & blot. It works on EVERYTHING. I always keep a spray bottle of the mixture in kitchen & laundry room.
Hello. I have had great results using the commercial on the shelf carpet cleaners with the Oxi bleach formulations in them. Hope this helps
Be careful with hydrogen peroxide. It can bleach out colors. I use it to clean whites in the wash. Safer and better than bleach. Try sprinkling some baking soda on the stain. The pour a little vinegar and let it foam up. Blot the the stain. Do not rub or it can spread
1 Tbsp blue Dawn, 1 Tbsp white vinegar, 2 cups warm water. Stir and apply with a microfiber cloth.
Note, I saw a post about peroxide, which is great but it also has a bleaching/lightening effect so if you use it for this or any other cleaning of fabric, it could whiten the color.
A tbsp. of liquid dish soap and a tbsp. of white vinegar, mixed in 2 cups of warm water. Blot the stain with the mixture and then blot with a dry cloth.
Is the rug small enough for the washing machine? If so, you can wash it. We wash area rugs all the time.
I used oxiclean to clean my rug with a carpet shampoo machine.
Get a rug cleaner. Shark, Bissel, Hoover all make them for a very reasonable price. I have had my Hoover for over 20 + years. It is a Godsend for stains. My least favorite is the Pet Pro. Costs way more and does way less. You will need to clean your carpets for your whole life and have spills spot and stains as long as you have carpets.
That being said if you refuse the investment, wet the rug with warm or cool water (hot sets stains) with a rag. Use old t shirts or cotton rags to soak up the water. Try a dish detergent or a spot cleaner but test to make sure it doesn't remove color first in a corner. Rug into stain, let sit for about a minute then blot with a damp cloth and lay rags on top. Step on them and let the dirty water be absorbed into them. Stepping on them give the maxium amount of pressure to absorb the stain into the rags. Continue til the stain is gone.
