You can put them back to back, screwed together, and add a counter top. For the base either add legs or put on casters if you want it mobile.

That should work well. Most cabinets are separately built. Just arrange them in the shape you want your island. Use filler boards in between if needed. Our island is made up from 4 cabinets and a opening for the dishwasher. Perhaps tell us the size of your cabinets and a sketch of your plan....Good luck

Decide what size works for an island then pick cabinet sizes that fit into those dimensions. You may have to adjust your size a bit as cabinets are standard sizes. Add a countertop to finish.
