Painting over wallpaper
Although it is 'possible' to do this, I would suggest that you first read through some of the postings here on Hometalk referring to all the problems that have been caused due to wallpaper having been painted over.

I painted over my wall paper twice in 20 years. The walls are still perfect. I primed and let dry thoroughly. I waited a few days before painting. I used Sherwin Williams Acrylic paint and the kitchen still looks beautiful.. I clean the walls once a year and have not had any trouble
Hello Jerry,
Be really sure the Wallpaper is good and stuck down and the edges are not open at all, otherwise they will draw in the water in the paint and spread. Ok! Paint - use if possible a one coat paint of Emulsion paint. Use a roller and a brush for the edges, or a Spray system.

WE have done this and only to remove the wallpaper a few months later, I am a good painter and it just left globs of paint in-between the wallpaper design. Hard to smooth out. IT can be done on flat but anything textured is very hard to paint. here is a good post https://www.bobvila.com/articles/how-to-paint-over-wallpaper/
You will want to make sure it is cleaned and sealed. Then prime and paint.
However, if you can remove it I would highly recommend doing so. If the paper every starts to peel then it will have to be removed and it will be a bear of a job once it has been painted.
You will first need to wash well, Then use a good primer sealer. Then paint...
Thank you All.........
We've done it, but you really need to pay attention to the seams. Then use a really good primer. Ours has lasted and looks amazing after decades. We just keep painting over it.
