What about a piece of plywood - you could paint it or cover it with a contact paper - like the marble look one?
Hello. A wood base would be an economical and easy solution. Alternatively the wood could be painted, covered with sheet metal, feathered with concrete or tiled.
Piece of wood with tile or a mosiac on top
Yup. I go for the plywood. Depending on your style you can paint it, stain it, decoupage it, tile it.
You can also get a piece of Plexiglass but it may get scratched up over time. And it is kind of expensive.

Just put a mirror on it that was cut in the right size Elsje
You can put a wood plank or mirror that would fit
budget friendly idea might be to glue a bunch of dollar store 4x6 mirrors to cardboard backing to fill the space.
The spaces in between the metal rods in this table are too large to support a cardboard backing. It will sag and warp, even without having the heavier mirrors glued on to it.
Hello Cathy,
Heavy duty Crystal Plexiglass or Marble, Stone, timber etc.
Hello. I think wood with the rustic looking stain would be a handsome option.
