Lowes make a product that comes in what looks like a gallon paint bucket. It is a black tar like substance you can paint on (especially around vents). This stuff is amazing. Had a new roof put on last summer and when it rained hard this winter found a leak in the spare bathroom.
Hubby crawled onto the roof and used this and no more leak.

Have you talked to a local roofing company?
Do you know where exactly the leak is coming from? Is it originating from worn out shingles or asphalt shingles that have lifted? Or is it originating in the flashing areas in the creases of the roof in between the shingles?
If the water is coming into the interior of the home, the 'fix' may require going into the attic. If the water is running off the roof or eavestroughs at some point where it shouldn't't be, then the solution my be just an exterior one.
Hello Phyllis,
You might be able to use a product called "Roofix" It comes in a tin and can be spread over roof. Best wishes.
I would call a roofing company, mine used to just charge $50 to do a quick tar patch. I finally changed to a metal roof.
If you want a temporary fix until spring time - nailing down a tarp would work. But if you have a leak, then you'll need to replace those asphalt sheets where the leak is.
Repairing a roof is risky. Better to call the pros. That being said , best case is a few spare shingles, some roof patch tar and a few few roofing nails may just do the trick.
Please be aware of the dangers of going on a roof, plus excess walking on a old roof can cause more leaks..
I had some shingles lift off and called a roofing company that originally installed the roof. The changed out one set of shingles and glue another area. It was a total of $75 well worth the piece of mind. They also checked the flashing by my patio all was well there.
