Try Goof Off Extra strength stipper. You can purchase it in Lowes. But refinishing furniture is a time consuming project, really no easy fast way. I have an electric sander that I use.
It’s a lengthy process no matter which route you take. Sanding if your best bet.
Try using Citristrip stripper. It removes layers of paint and finish.

Trish,
'Don't know where you live, but if you are in the USA or Canada, then regular stores such as HD, Lowes, Walmart, and Hardware and Paint stores should all carry CitriStrip.
Hello Trish.
Keep going, Nothing worth the effort was ever done quickly!
Hi Trish, have you tried applying the stripper and then covering it with saran wrap or a plastic bag/dropcloth? This will allow the stripper to work longer without drying out. I've used this methodwith good success.
