Rough edges on granite counter tops.
The edges of our granite counter tops are very rough. Is there any way to smooth them out as they are ruining my jerseys by wearing holes through them. Thank you.
Hi Dar! It really depends on what kind of countertops you currently have. Laminate countertops can be painted or even covered in concrete for two completely different looks. Here's some more information on painting them: https://www.lovelyetc.com/how-my-painted-countertops-look-after-3-years-of-use/
What type of counter top? Laminate, concrete, marble, butcher block or what???
Hi Dar
Are you wanting to replace your old counter tops or just update what you have? If they are laminate or tile you can paint them here is info below on how to do that or if you want to replace them I added info on that as well.

You can buff with a paste of baking soda and peroxide. That will bring them back to life of their original finish. If you don't like it, you could cover with contact paper or paint with a kit.

Could you repost with what specifically you have and what you'd like to do them with? A picture would be very helpful.
Hello Dar, I painted mine, it lasted a good ten years until I could afford new ones, here's how:
Lightly sand to rough the countertop up
Go to your paint store, tell them what you are painting, they will pick the proper paint and primer for you, you can even get the primer tinted for a better coverage
Once you have sanded, clean with TSP, then rinse and dry thoroughly,
Apply your primer coat, let it dry according to the instructions
Once the primer coat is dry, apply your paint coat, I would apply 2 or 3 as it will be stronger and thicker
Once your coats dry, you can apply a matte clear coat, either by spray or roll on, keep a small container of it under your sink for touch ups,( I never touched up) I had my counters like this for 12 years, until I could afford new ones.
I used a few uncolored glass cutting boards for protection. It held up very well. And only costs you the prices of the materials.
Good luck!
Hi! Both Gianni and Rustoleum make kits for the process, if you are going for a new look. I have seen some clever epoxy and concrete placed over laminate counters. It depends on your DIY skills and your budget. If you decide to replace them, you are only limited by your budget. Good luck!
I think it depends on what your counters are currently. You could use a skim coat concrete or a kit by Rustoleum.
