Why does the hot water in the shower last for only one minutes?
When our water recirulator is running, the hot water in the shower only lasts a minute before it turns cold. If I turn off the tap for minute and then turn it on again, I get hot water again for a short bit and then it turns cold. I don’t have this issue on any of the other faucets or showers. Without the recirculator pump running, we barely get hot water anywhere on the top floor of the house.

Do you have an on-demand water heater?
Jessica,
There are multiple reasons this may be happening. We need more info about your situation. Is this a new problem with an old pump? Did you just install the pump? Is your pump located under your sink on the top floor or at your water heater? Does your pump have a timer and a separate power supply? Did you install it yourselves? It sounds like a problem with the by-pass valve. It could be faulty or plumbed incorrectly. It could also be the pump is bad.

I would call a plumber for an evaluation. Or you could call the local plumbing supply house and inquire. A lot of times they are very helpful and can tell you right away what needs to be replaced or repaired and then you can decide if it's DIY or pro job.
