For the past 6 months i had seeing mouse's started to come in my house and in my car. Don't know how are they coming in. So i went to store bought 2 packs of mothballs contain 52 ball's inside them. I tossed them in my ceiling, now my house smell so bad. I have 2 kids 1 year old and 3 years old. We are sleeping in my brother's house for now someone please help me. When is safe to go home. My kids missed the house

Hi Mike yeah I tried the mothball thing at one point too when I felt over run. It didn't help much and it made my house just stink so bad. I got rid of all the moth balls after that and moved on to just basic mouse traps with a little peanut butter on them. I would do a walk around the entire home and look very carefully for any small holes they might be coming in at. Dryer vents etc. are notorious for mice figuring out how to get in beside them. Any holes you find stuff with steel wool and get those traps out and set.
Rather than moth balls, go with cinnamon and peppermint to drive them out.
I also put out the type of poison that dries up their blood so they don't create a smell. You will have to be diligent about keeping them out of the reach of children. I put it behind the washer/dryer, stove, refrigerator, and boxes in the garage. You can also put in your attic since your children wouldn't be in that area.
Make sure to seal up any small openings to help keep them out. Make sure you don't leave your doors open for extended periods of time.

Take the moth balls out of the attic, the smell will stay as long as they are up there. There is no way to eradicate the smell without removal

Mice don't like mint, put some essential mint oil on a cotton ball and put in cupboards where you find them coming in. Get a caulk gun and some steel wool and fill every hole you can find with either the caulk or shove some steel wool in. Holes any size big enough to fit the head, they can squeeze through. I also like to keep my grains, flour, beans, corn etc in large jars or big tins.
If you find them coming in via the roof, prune back any branches coming up to the house and then make some kind of collar around the gutter downspouts to prevent them using them to climb up like coarse steel wool, ground glass etc.
Mothballs will smell for months. You need to pull them out and set some traps.
We had a problem in our attic a few years ago. Unfortunately, one or more died up there and the smell was awful. We used mothballs, too, but, hubby tied them in old socks so they were easier to remove. Unless you are willing to wait a really long time, you need someone with a respirator (they sell them by 3m which is what I have) to go up, remove the loose ones, place traps and an air sponge (they sell them online) to absorb any remaining odor after airing the place out. We went through two industrial air sponges to get rid of the smell. Even contained, I thought the mothballs were awful. We got rid of them, too! Poison creates the issue of decaying rodents. Traps at least can be checked daily and removed. After you clean up the mothballs, block any tiny space they are coming in. They climb and can fit through tiny gaps. Regular foam gap filler won't keep them out, but, there is foam made with metal pieces that is labeled for that, or you can buy copper mesh or steel wool to wedge in the gap first. I did some research online and it was a battle with the pests, but, we finally got rid of them. This time of year, they are looking for warm spots and food. I also found closing up openings from the attic into the second floor helped, too. If it is a rental, get the landlord involved ( they can pay an exterminator). If it's your house, tightening the openings in the house will save you money in the long run. By the way, mint, peppermint, etc. didn't work for me. Good luck and stay safe!

I would hire a professional exterminator to fix the mouse issue and remove the mothballs.
Moth balls are dangerous to humans. Remove them. Use mouse traps. If they worked on mice they would be called mouseballs.

Don't use poison, your kids or pets can get into them, and if the mice eat poison and your pets eat the mice, they too, may die or get very sick, so no poisons :)

Is the smell from the Mothballs or the Mice? If the Mothballs, remove them. If the Mice. Call in the Mouse catcher or borrow some ones cat!
Mothballs aren’t meant for mice and generally they’re very harmful just anyway. Remove them and go around the outside of your house plugging up every tiny hole in you can find. You many need pest control help.
