To do the project you've pictures, I would try spraying the container with primer made for plastic. Once thoroughly dry, you can then use craft paints to do a test and see if it stays stuck on. Normally I wouldn't be concerned about that but the type of plastic container you pictured is for berries and they aren't meant to be reused as they are so flimsy.
Acrylic craft paint. Artist quality not the kid stuff.

I've used Krylon and Valspar spray paint. Just make sure you purchase the plastic formula.
