Hi Madonna, teak is a hardwood but can still be treated like any outdoor wood. Regardless of whether its painted or not I would suggest power spraying it or even taking it in to a self serve car wash and giving it a serious hard core bath.
From there scraping and sanding it down to remove any splinters and what's left of the original finish.
There are many different outdoor stain choices out there as well as some really decent outdoor paints as well that hold up pretty well over time. Good luck!
Hi Madonna, teak is such a beautiful wood and can last nearly forever, especially if well-cared for. Some people like to not do a lot of cae other than cleaning it, so that it begins to gey beautifully. Here's a link to all info about possible care and products to use.....

Hi! How is the current finish? Is it rough, peeling, etc.? If it needs help, cleaning, sanding and refinishing may be needed. Use products intended for outdoor use. They will protect your wood and protect the finish. Covering it in the winter months will help protect it, too. Good luck!
