How do you care for pewter (in this case, mugs)?
I have some pewter mugs that have some sort of white deposits on them. Any one know what these are and what to do about them?

Hi Karen, some pewter is polished to make it more shiny and some is not. Here's an article that mentions the various types and how to care for the pewter. Hope it helps! It doesn't mention what to do about white spots, sorry!

I have recently started using bio cleaner and it does a great job in silver and pewter and copper. I got if from hsn but it’s a clay paste cleaner so you can probably pick up anywhere.
For polished pewter, use a solution of warm water and dishwashing liquid to gently remove any dirt from the pewter piece, then rinse it carefully and dry it with a soft cloth. You can also use a mixture of one cup of vinegar and half a cup of flour to clean polished pewter.

Hi! Brasso cleaner can be used on pewter. There are also cleaner/polish made just for pewter.
Hi,
You just wash in soapy water, never try to clean them, they should be a dull grey colour.
If you do clean them up you devalue them.
