Can I paint my white Faux Wood blinds that have yellowed from the sun?
After 5 years of intense sun, my white faux wood blinds are yellowing. I'm so disappointed. Was wondering if anyone has been successful painting them, and if so, what kind of paint was used.

Hello,
One coat white satin finish would be good , or you could stick on Contact paper maybe.
Hi there, yes you can and this vidoe tutorial will show you how - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hb_J68Fr82M
You could start by taking them down and cover the slats with a paste made from Oxyclean and water (wear gloves), that removes many stains from plastic and maybe what you need. Let the paste sit for 5-10 min and then rinse off.
Other than that, you could paint them with any paint made for plastic. Be sure they are very clean before painting.
Yes, you can. Here's a link:

Thats a good question. Wonder if the previous commercial sealer yellowed and if it could impact further painting. Calling the blind manufacturer if known might be considered.
most the time the paint will also yellow on the blinds here is some info

I would recommend RustOleum enamel paint. I painted exterior shutters and other items on our porch and there is no yellowing on them.
I use to have blinds and got tired of having to change them out so I went with semi-sheer curtains - they are much easier to keep clean.

Yes you can, and use acrylic based enamel paint.
For as much work as painting them I would consider new ones. It is too much to do all at once try one or two a month. Lowe's and Home Depot carry them. Measure the width and replace as you can.
You likely can prime and paint them but this sure sounds like an immense amount of work. You might weigh the time, effort, and expense of painting against installing new ones.

Hang them up outside on a clothes line with something like monofilament fishing line.
Wash & dry them.
Spray paint them, with 2 light coats.
It will take a lot of paint, so buy extra cans and keep the receipt.
Contact paper will NOT stay stuck to faux wood blinds.
Don't waste your money or time.
Certain white plastics naturally become more yellowy over time when exposed to indoor light or sunlight. Because the 'faux wood' is composed of plastic, this is why they have discoloured.
Are the blinds discoloured on both sides of the slats, or just the side that has been facing the outside the most?
1. Paint Slats With Primer
2. Prime Other Side
3. Paint One Side of Slats
4. Paint Other Side
5. Replace Slat Strings
6. Replace Slat Fasteners
