Instead of stacking them, hang them.
Cheap Easy DIY Outdoor Pumpkins
You could visit the dollar store and buy plastic pumpkins, decorate them as you like, if you paint them, I would suggest a sealer, and then hang them with fishline.

Use plastic pumpkins
When Dollar Tree starts selling them again - you can get styrofoam pumpkins to hang from the tree. I redecorated mine a bit in this post here: https://happydealhappyday.com/diy-glitter-pumpkins/
I would grab a few plastic trick or treat pumpkins that they sell at the dollar store. Some of them don't have the faces on them.
Thanks to all for the great solutions
That’s such a great idea to hang them from trees.
I would get the lightweight styrofoam pumpkins they have at dollar stores. You can spray paint them different colors.
Use gallon milk jugs paint them orange hang by the handle
The dollar stores sell the plastic ones for kids to trick or treat with. Why not decorate or paint to your liking. They are super light weight.
Gallon plastic jugs (milk/orange juice) can be painted a solid color and then add a jack-o-lantern face.
Save yourself the time and work.... Go to Dollar Tree and check out their little pumpkins, even the ones in the floral dept.
Take a pumpkin and totally clean all the inside out. Then you need to dry the shell. Warm dry air and a fan will work as it probably wont fit in a dehydrator.
Your best bet might be to swing by a dollar store or a craft store and pick up foam pumpkins. Otherwise you could try papier mache but that won't last in rainy weather.
