How'd It Get to Be SO Late, SO Soon?

Today, it's December the First! As Dr.Seuss would say re this date, “How did it get so late so soon? It's night before it's afternoon. December is here before it's June. My goodness how the time has flewn. How did it get so late so soon?”

Once, upon a time, I wrote about December coming before it's June in relation to garden winterizing. My musings can be found on Blogger.*

But today is not only the first day of December, it's the second day of Advent, and I'm wondering, dear reader, if you decorate your home for this particular season?

During this season, I usually place a wreath made of fresh Christmas tree branches that come from Canada. Then I place the traditional Advent candles in the center and light them accordingly. This a ritual I've shared with my dear, dear friend Victor for a number of years.

But, alas, he will not be here during this time, for he is still quite ill and seems to be declining. Moreover, his spirit is broken and I find it devastating to know that a man of such faith (MUCH more than yours truly) seems to be receiving no consolation from prayer.

I'm deeply saddened and it was an effort to decorate for Advent. However I still did it, and the results of my efforts can be seen in the second image accompanying this entry.

As you can see I placed some figurines of carolers around the wreath. I did this in the hopes that their songs will lift my spirits. This is the first time the carolers have joined me for Advent; in bygone years a reindeer was here as seen below.

And there were times that I added Christmas lights to the Advent wreath.
