There is nothing quite like the swell you feel in your chest when you gaze at an American flag riding the wind. Those crisp white stars, those bold red lines, that mesmerizing sea of blue — the American flag is a symbol of bravery and freedom, and we all love displaying them in our homes and outdoor areas. Now imagine pairing that American pride with the pride of creating something yourself! These 7 homemade flags, which you can totally replicate for your own home this season, will make you proud to be a DIYer, and even prouder to be an American.
1. Grand Ol’ Fence Flag
When her father in law rescued these old fence boards, this Hometalker decided that the rustic rounded wooden slats and the worn ends would make the perfect aged American flag.
2. Patriotic Crib Upcycle
You know you’re a true patriot when you’re seeing flags everywhere, like this DIYer, who found inspiration in her old crib from 1969! With some ribbon and some rope, she had a striking patriotic flag to display from her porch, loud and proud, for July 4th.
3. Stars, Stripes, and Shutters
The natural shape of these old wooden shutters gave this Hometalker the brilliant idea to paint them with stars and stripes. A vertical flag is a fresh, unexpected look, and it’s also OH so charming in the garden!
4. Red, White, and Blue Bunting
Using a wooden doormat, this devoted DIYer created her own take on the flag. With red, white, and blue paint, this compact design has just a drop of firework flavor, perfect for the star-spangled July 4th night.
5. Barnwood and Beadboard Beauty
After finding two pieces of beadboard in her scrap wood pile, a patriotic crafter decided to create a pair of flags to proudly display from her porch. After a bit of antiquing, they look like authentic American relics!
6. Strips of Stripes
This striking design was inspired by an old, white window frame and 13 strings of jute. This is definitely a decoration your neighbors haven’t seen before, but you can be sure cars will slow as they pass and proudly admire your display.
7. Old Glory in String
One blogger discovered an easy way to show her pride, using a pallet board, some nails, and string dyed with food coloring! After the crafting was done, she felt like it was well worth her time — and we couldn't agree more!
