Decorating With Old Windows

I love old windows and I love old maps, so it just seemed to make good sense to use them together!
I was fortunate enough to find some cool old windows at an estate sale. Below is what the window frame looked like when I brought it home.
The first thing I did was remove the screen -- using gloves, wire cutters, and a pliers. The screen was very rusty, so it actually popped off fairly easily, which was a pleasant surprise. :D
Because I was afraid the paint might actually contain lead, I scrubbed it fairly gingerly with a scrub pad and a mixture of vinegar and baking soda. No paint flakes chipped off, and I was amazed at how clean the window frame came!!
Then it was just a matter of stapling the map to the back of the frame. I love all the chippy paint -- it looks like something that was just pulled out of an old barn ... which it was! This old window was definitely worth repurposing!
The map, crate, basket and window were all purchased second hand --- big impact for a couple of bucks!! Please feel free to check out the full post for additional pictures and information. http://www.clockworkinteriors.com/?p=2010
