If you have a decent subfloor, that could be sanded and painted or stained and sealed. Another option is to visit your local Habitat ReStore for flooring. They have great prices!
You can purchase carpet tile online. Big squares you place and press. My neighbor painted her floor like a quilt just using masking tape to paint the squares. For son's room how about a team logo in the shape of a rug and a throw rug beside the bed.
Hi Sammie, if you're into inexpensive DIY, here's an option for you.......Brown paper flooring. You pull up the carpet and pad, remove the tackless strips from around the perimeter, and replace with paper. It could be a fun family project!

Sheet vinyl is probably the least expensive and easiest thing to put down. You can probably just clean the sub flooring and lay it down.
Hi Samme, depending on what is under the carpet you could always pull it up and use the floor beneath it. You could paint the wood or cover it. It would depend on how old your house is though and what is underneath.
Vinyl tiles are easy to lay yourself and come in a ton of different options these days too.
You can throw a couple of area rugs over the carpeting. ...it can look chic!
if you go to Home Depot or Lowes and buy vinyl flooring it is easy to install and they will show you how- also videos online for this - it comes in designs that look like wood and tile and you can usually find it on sale and do it yourself
Carpet stores have remnants carpet pieces of all sizes, I redid several rooms very inexpensively with wall to wall carpet left over from their huge rolls.
you could always pull up the carpet and paint the subfloor and just use rugs in their rooms

For your Son, Use Artificial Grass, or Painted Drop Cloth. For your Daughter Laminate flooring., or Lino. Hope that helps! You can often buy Rug size pieces of Carpet or Carpet tiles - end of line or off cuts.
I would purchase som luxury vinyl. It is durable, waterproof and inexpensive.
Hello Samme, how about a nice peel and stick vinyl tiles and area rugs to keep the feet warm. Easy to do, I did my entire kitchen and both bathrooms in it and it lasted for years!

plywood floors, cut in shapes or planks. If you don’t have the tools, you can borrow from friends, have the store cut strips, or rent tools at your local home improvement store. Just seal or stain and seal.
