I've been looking for the same thing, Karen. I recently bought a beautiful spread at a Sears Store that is closing, and I'm going to do some sewing on it and make it into a fitted bedspread because I can't find a pretty one either.
I really like the trend of newer hotels/motels. Sheets, top and bottom are put on the bed as usual. Make sure the top sheet is pulled up to the headboard. Then add a soft lightweight duvet/comforter (preferably white) ...no blanket is used. Then add a 2nd top sheet on top of the duvet/coverlet. Then take the two top sheets with the coverlet and begin to fold them down neatly two times. Tuck in the side all the way around. Place as many bed pillows and throw pillows you like and arrange them neatly. Then lay a blanket folded along the foot of the bed. It's a very clean look and a very inviting bed at the end of the long day.
If you don't have a bed skirt and your box springs are showing, Get another fitted sheet and place over that to hid any non matching sheets. Use your bed pillow and throw pillow, and blanket at the foot of your bed in fun comforting colors to throw in your color scheme.
It's simply a lovely look, and very easy to care for. If there is any place in your house to spend money on, is very good sheets. Good luck!
Try ebay - used items...
What gives a 'fitted' bedspread its neat squared off look is mainly the thick piping that when sewn in between the seams of the top and the side panels gives it immediate shape and structure.
While it is not difficult to make your own piping, it does require a certain amount of sewing machine ability. Sadly though, home sewing seems to be yet another life skill that is being lost.
Try a site called Wayfair.com.

Don't know if they are close by you but they do a beautiful job of making just about anything you want.

They did a great job of making custom cushions and covers for a very long old bench couch in a girls dorm. They were extremely helpful working with me getting exactly what was needed. Worth an email to see if they can help you.
