With braces attached to shelf
How do I attach the paint tray to the ladder ?
In the past, I was always able to attach the paint tray to the foldout shelf on the ladder. For some reason the new tray doesn’t attach without the tray tipping so the paint would run out! What am I doing wrong?
There’s no place else to attach it

Good questions. I have never had the courage to put my tray on the ladder shelf. It seems to precarious to me.
Get a HANDy cup instead. Much easier to hold and less scary on a ladder.
it appears that you have it on correctly. Is it an oversized paint tray? Try buying another. You might also see if you can bend the “legs” up toward the paint tray to tighten it up. Your ladder is a small one.
Ah! It’s backwards!
Grab a pair of vice grips from the tool box and simply clamp it to the ladder then no worries of spilled paint
It's backwards;bigger/heavier end inwards, clips go on outside edge of shelf
Actually I prefer using a bucket with a mesh tray inside to roll on to. Much less mess and easier to pick up and move. Smaller bucket, smaller screen.
I’ve never tried the bucket/roller idea. I finally went to Home Depot and bought a longer tray. Seems to do the trick!
Thabks for all suggestions!
Why you take too much trouble to attach a paint tray in your ladder? In spite of that, try to buy a step ladder with a painting tray that will be more beneficial and safe in use.
Better yet, just use a roller extention and forget the ladder
