Do you want to cut it vertically or horizontally? You should be able to do either and make it fit where you want to use it

Hi, depending on what it is made out of you will need different tools. Can you provide a few more details and we would be happy to help?
Could you explain whether you're wanting to cut it in half vertically or horizontally. In either case you'll need to add at least one other board (maybe two) to finish it for use.
We used a fine tooth blade on a skill saw. First we marked it with a chalk line (the string that you mark each end and hold onto them, then pop to create a line) so that we would have a straight line to cut by. Our saw has a laser guide which is quite handy for this type of cutting, to keep it exact.
Can you share a photo and how complex the bookshelf is? You may be able to do it with a circular saw.

CUT THE BOOKSHELF IN HALF
https://www.crossingmasondixon.com/2012/10/20/cut-the-bookshelf-in-half/
Hi! Unless the shelves are fixed in place, I would remove the shelves (and back if it isn't permanently fixed in place), before cutting the top and sides. I usually take something apart before cutting it into two or more sections because I find it easier to reassemble precisely cut pieces. Measure more than once!

Table saw with adjacent tables.
I do not recommend this. You’re going to have to re-fabricate a great deal of the cut cabinet.
Hi, if you'll be cutting it in half horizontally, try to cut just above a shelf, and if you have a steady hand use a jigsaw. Most times it is best to take the bookshelf apart, if that's possible so yous can get clean-cut lines.
