How can I build a chicken coop?
My plan is to build a chicken coop - we live in an area (neighborhood) where we can have chickens but I want to be respectful of my neighbors regarding smell. We also want to be able to allow chickens space to roam within a confined run area. What is the best way to accomplish a natural type environment for them but be able to manage the odor?

Check your local zoning codes. They specify how far from property lines to place the coop. Hopefully you have a large enough space for the coop and their yard. If you need protection from predators, consider building a chunnel for them.
There are actually a lot of ideas on Hometalk: https://www.hometalk.com/search/posts?filter=chicken%20coop. Wow! Do any of these speak to you?
I went thru this site and made note of which features I wanted or liked. Such as a separate access to the nesting boxes from the outside which makes it easier to access the boxes and clean them too. Double doors on the front that both swing open for easy access for cleaning. And troughs for scratch made out of plastic gutter material so they aren't taking up floor space and being higher they don't get as dirty either. Plus with those feeding troughs located on the door checking them and filling is very easy. Same with the watering devices. Just browse thru and you will pick up some handy and useful ideas.
