Steam can penetrate through small openings like worn-out thin finish or even through scratches. It doesn’t have to be spaces between planks that can only destroy your floor, avoid steam mops if your floor is not sealed.

It would depend on what the cause of the spots are but I'm guessing mildew. White vinegar used sparingly will kill mold and mildew spores. Then you can start addressing how to proceed for a uniform color again.

  • You mix equal parts of warm water with a cup of white vinegar. The scrub the stained area using a rug until the dark spot is gone, then pat the place dry.

  • I think it's going to depend on what these black spots are, how they got there, if it's some kind of damage or a stain. Do you know the manufacturer of the flooring? If so, you might contact them for tips.

Could it be rubber shoe sole marks? A pencil eraser rubbed on it will remove it. Otherwise others have given you good advice.

Hello. Could you post a picture? More information would be helpful rather than guessing. Is the spot within the wood grain or on top of the actual wood flooring. More information could be useful.
