Here's how to polish silver with vinegar, which you may not know is an incredibly versatile cleaning tool. Return luster and shine to your silverware and jewelry by soaking it in 1/2 cup white vinegar mixed with 2 tablespoons of baking soda for two to three hours. Rinse under cold water, and dry thoroughly.
Of course not. Now you know to never ever put Sterling in a dishwasher. I use good old toothpaste, not gel.

The good old fashioned toothpaste with nothing added is the best, do not use the aluminum foil app, it is bad for silver, it takes a little off each time you use it and leaves it with a gray film you have to scrub off anyway. Never put good silver in the dishwasher and don't use any cleaner that has salt in it, it turns it black. I hope this helps you, sometimes the quickest ways to clean silver are not good for them and you have to go with the elbow grease. With the toothpaste it also rinses off really easy compared to using silver cleaner like my mom always did.
