What are the best products to use to clean kitchen cabinets?

I'm painting my 40 yr old kitchen cabinets white. Also, I need to replace hardware for the drawers to glide, what is best? These are standard oak kitchen cabinets and once cleaned up and fixed I think they will look remarkable. New to DIY, but I'm on a very limited budget. Everything will be done by me. Also, cabinet paint, so many out there. I need lots of advice. Thanks, Heidi

For cleaning, use warm soap and water. You can use a toothbrush and pure Dawn on it to scrub extra greasy areas if you need. I am sorry, I am not experienced in hardware for cabinets, but we find our managers at home improvement stores are VERY GOOD at advising and we have gotten to know them and befriend them. They even ask how the last project went and remember us. I hope this helps Heidi, how exciting to change out your cabinet colors~

Thank you, I'm most appreciative to any and all advise!! I will definitely use Dawn. It works great on greasy pots & pans, so why not cabinets. Seems like a no-brainer!!

Once cleaned , sand off sheen, prime with oil based primer, lightly sand again, apply 2 coats of oil based finish paint. Add your new hardware, enjoy your new kitchen

Mix a 50/50 solution of vinegar and warm water and pour it into a spray bottle. Mist on cabinets, let sit for a minute or two and then wipe clean with a soft cloth. Add a few drops of liquid dishwashing detergent to the vinegar and water solution to clean extremely grimy cabinets.
