4 Reasons Not to Use Bleach to Remove Your Outdoor Mold

Wet & Forget
by Wet & Forget
ou have an outdoor mold or mildew problem and want to take care of it the easiest way possible. A lot of Do it Yourself websites suggest creating a bleach solution to remove mold or mildew from outdoor areas such as decks, roofing, siding and sidewalks. We are all for DIY cleaning projects, but we have a few reasons why bleach based products are not the best way to go. Wet & Forget is a no scrub, no rinse, no power washing alternative that is easier on the environment.
1. Bleach based products require scrubbing and rinsing. Instructions for removing moss, mold and mildew with bleach based products are time intensive and require several steps. First you have to scrub the bleach product into the surface you want to clean. This involves using a stiff bristled brush, a lot of time on your hands and knees and a lot of elbow grease. After scrubbing, you have to rinse the product off the surface to prevent damage. Just the thought of this makes our knees hurt and our backs sore. Save yourself the hard work and use Wet & Forget. All you do is spray it on and walk away. No scrubbing, rinsing or elbow grease required. After that, let Mother Nature take care of the rest as Wet & Forget works with the wind and rain, gently cleaning away the moss, mold, mildew and algae.
2. Bleach based products are harmful to surrounding vegetation and sprayer equipment. Bleach based products will harm any plants and vegetation they come in contact with near the outdoor surfaces you are cleaning, not to mention spotting up your clothes and damaging your sprayer equipment. Wet & Forget is much gentler on surrounding vegetation and will not harm your sprayer equipment. A little common sense goes a long way when applying Wet & Forget. While Wet & Forget is not designed to be sprayed directly onto plants or vegetation, a simply rinse the plants down before and after the Wet & Forget application with water to protect them from overspray.

3. Bleach based products are 10,000x more caustic. Wet & Forget has a pH of 8, which is almost neutral. For example, water is neutral and has a pH of 7. Bleach based products have a pH of around 12. This means that bleach based products are 10,000 times more caustic than Wet & Forget. This is why bleach based products harm surrounding vegetation, sprayer equipment and the even the surfaces you are trying to clean.

4. According to the American Public Health Association Resolution No 3904: Virtually all chlorinated organic compounds studied exhibit at least one of a wide range of serious toxic effects such as endocrine dysfunction, developmental impairment, birth defects, reproductive dysfunction and infertility, immunosuppression, and cancer, often at extremely low doses.
When cleaning up outdoor moss, mold, mildew and algae, work smarter, not harder by using Wet & Forget. It’s easy to apply, gentle on the environment and gives you more time to sit back and relax. Find Wet & Forget at a store near you.
