  • The racks can be left in the oven during the self cleaning cycle.

Put them in a large heavy-duty garbage bag along with a cup of ammonia, tie it shut and leave overnight. The built up grease and crud should wipe right off. Outside or in the garage is best because of the ammonia fumes.

The first thing I would do is take a look at the instruction manual that came with your self cleaning oven, some manufacturers recommend you do this in a self cleaning cycle and some do not. If you've mislaid yours, you can call the company and ask them if this is ok to do. Have the appliance's name and model number, they would love to help you.

To clean them outside of the oven, Mogie gave you excellent advice, it is the ammonia fumes that do the work rather than the liquid. Wear gloves and safety glasses when you remove them from the bag, have good ventilation or do this outside.

I spray my oven grills with grill cleaner from the dollar store. I put them in a large plastic bag and seal overnight. In the morning just rinse off with a hose.

Hi! Easy Off makes a cold oven cleaner that works well on the oven racks and also my grill. Stay safe!

    Hello Irene,

Set the oven to Self clean once a week to gradually clean well.

I spray mine with oven cleaner. I have switched to Norwex cleaner because it does a great job without all the horrible fumes.

  • I've taken them out, put them in a garbage bag with some ammonia overnight, and wiped them clean the next day. Works pretty well.

Hi Irene, hope this helps, it does work! Wrap the racks in aluminum foil. Place an old towel in the bottom of the bath, then put the wrapped racks on top. Add a couple of dishwasher tablets, and cover the racks with hot water.

Then leave to soak overnight. In the morning, unwrap the racks, and wipe them down with a soft cloth. Rinse and dry (soft cloth again, people), then replace.

Hello. Many times it is not recommended to leave your racks in the oven during self cleaning cycles so I take mine outside (during the nicer weather)— rather than the bathtub— put them in a black trash bag and spray them down with commercial oven cleaner the next day the racks are hosed off in sparkly clean condition. Hope this helps.
