it may depend what crafts you do.
Clear a room. Start with a work area. Decide what form of organization you like: i.e. dowels to hold ribbons, clear tubs or drawers to hold supplies with labels on the outside, or hanging organizers. One friend used 3 shoe hangers (48 pockets per holder). In one she put all her paint tubes, sponge brushes, water colors, paint brushes, markers, etc. In the second she put tools such as measuring tapes, clippers, tripod for video camera, video camera, scissors, box cutters etc all tools, in the third she put miscellaneous and supplies. In tubs she put larger objects left over from previous projects, bags of pine cones, etc. She can see most her supplies at a glance without searching and knows the area of each on her craft room door, closet door in the craft room, and other side of the closet door. She also has filing cabinets with ideas and patterns organized. I hope I am as organized one day!
This link shows how to store supplies and make a desk top working area.
