3 Dollar Store Halloween Projects
I love to decorate for Halloween, but do not like to spend a lot of money, so I usually head to the Dollar Store. This year I picked up several items that I transformed with paint and added to my existing Halloween items. Dollar Tree has a great selection of wood cutouts and faux pumpkins in several sizes, which is perfect for crafting!
I picked up 3 wood cutout haunted houses, a pack of wooden pumpkin ornaments, faux pumpkins, and butterflies.
I used 2 light coats of Rust-Oleum spray paint on each item.
Metallic copper for the pumpkins, Chalkboard for the houses, and Gloss Black on the butterflies.
Project 1-Pumpkin Garland
I spray painted both sides of the wood pumpkins with metallic copper paint and let dry.
I saved the small pieces of twine for another day and got out my yarn to turn these ornaments into garland. I tied them onto the yarn and strung them up on the china hutch using tape.
It is the perfect size for this piece and the metallic paint adds a little bling to the decor.
Project 2 - Spooky Houses
I wanted a matte finish, so I grabbed the chalkboard paint that I already had on hand and sprayed both sides of the wooden cutouts.
Once dry, I created a spooky scene on my mantel using a painted wine bottle, glittery spider and skull (from the Dollar Tree)
Project 3 - Spooky Butterfly Pumpkin
I was inspired to do this from a project I saw on the cover of the Halloween edition of Better Homes and Gardens magazine.
Once the butterflies had been painted and dried, I stuck them on the faux pumpkin using Loctite mounting putty.
I love butterflies, so why not jazz up a plain faux pumpkin with a few?
