DIY Thanksgiving Napkin Holder

Whenever I begin planning our Thanksgiving tablescape, I always start with a theme, and then I create a fun and pretty napkin holder to go along with it. This year I chose a classic black, white, and gold theme.

Since I had to invest a bit of money for some of the items on the tablescape, I decided I'd make the napkin holders myself.

SUPPLIES:

• Real or Faux Leaves (I used faux)
• Kraft Paper Gift Tags
• Black Chalk Paint 
• Wood Letters
•  stencil(or you could use chalk pen)( I bought my ‘grateful’ stencil at Dollar General)
• Gold Spray Paint
• White Craft Paint
• Gold Paper Clips
• Hot Glue Gun/Glue Sticks

I started by first giving the faux leaves I had on hand a couple of coats of gold spray paint. Then I set those aside to dry and moved on with the rest of the project.

Next, I painted my paper tags with chalkboard paint. I did this initially because I planned on using a chalk pen to write wording, but I didn't like the way it looked so I improvised. (NOTE: you could definitely just use any black paint to cover the tags)

Instead of writing my word, I decided to use a mini stencil that I picked up at our local Dollar General. It was a pretty tight fit, but I really wanted that wording(see why in my full post) so I went with it.

I also wanted to personalize the napkin holder, but I didn't want to write on the leaves. So I found these wooden letters (again at Dollar General) and since I already had the chalkboard paint out, used that to paint them. I gave each side two coats. (Each letter represents the initial of our guest's first name)

To put it all together, I just used some hot glue to glue the wood lettering onto the gold leaf. Then I glued the leaf onto the tag.

I attached the napkin holder to the napkin using a gold paper clip but you could take some pretty ribbon and attach it to either side and wrap the napkin, or just lay it on top of the napkin as a decoration.
