Was recently in one of my favorite “haunts” looking for things to repurpose. I found this coffee grinder that was only $3.00. See second photo. I was NOT going to use it to grind coffee. The piece was quite heavy. However, I wasn’t sure whether the white portion was real or “faux” marble. I began dismantling the piece and cleaning all portions.

Here is the photo with the price sticker attached.

Well, I removed the handle by unscrewing the metal ball piece. So then it looked like this.

Using a Phillips head screwdriver, I removed these two screws. This, too, came out very easily and looked like this. FYI. I kept all the mechanical pieces and wooden handle in case I need them.

What a wonderful surprise I received! It’s REAL marble. After I stopped doing cartwheels, not really, but I surely felt like doing some, I put my thinking cap on. I cleaned the marble because it was grungy. I made the decision to turn it over. It looked like a very high end marble base. The marble on the bottom was not shiny like the rest of it and had three holes in it. I used a scrap of white felt to smooth it some. I then glued down the felt.

I trimmed the excess felt away after the glue dried. I had purchased two of these etched vases YEARS ago at a St. Vincent de Paul thrift store for $1.00 each. They both have a design etched into the glass. I went upstairs and brought one of them downstairs. This is how it looks.

I set the the vase onto the marble but then realized I needed to secure the vase to the felt. I used hot glue in case I wanted to switch out the vase to something else. In another Hometalk project, I had melted some gifted candles and made a pillar candle. Although it was a squared candle, it fit perfectly in the vase. I put the candle into the vase and tied a simple bow out of a remnant of burlap ribbon around the indented portion of the base and hot glued some fall colored berries onto the bow. I put several fall colored leaves I had here at home around the candle just to give it some extra color. I will definitely remove them when the candle flame gets anywhere close to the leaves. I like the simple elegance of this piece. Another plus is that this can be easily changed using any seasonal decoration you want to use. Totally multifunctional! Now onward to the bottom part.

Let me know what you think. Would love for you Hometalkers to check out my other projects and see what I have done with more unusual items.
