think of any kind of decoration like this as being temporary. . . in other words don't sweat it. I actually am in the process of doing this. I have a huge jar full of shells and I am going to put it on this chest with a small bust and a photo holder and maybe the blue and white large jar I have there now, or I could add some large shells or some stones or some feathers. Collect a lot of decorative things from nature or yard sales and this becomes one of the joys of housekeeping. Here is a shell arrangement but on a porch.
Placing beachy objects like shells or drift wood either in a tall vase or a basket is a good way to display those items. Use items that are in beach colors like sea foam, light blues or greens.

You could also paint a tray to use as a base to hold some items. I gave a thrifted tray a beachy makeover.
