I wanted something different for our side door, which is the one we use the most, and I thought a wreath would probably stick out too far. I also wanted it to fit in the top pane of the new storm doors and be bright enough to see from the road.
So, I bought a whole bunch of sparkly things!
You know what, I had never been to Dollar Tree before I started looking at the posts on Hometalk! Guess where all of these "décor" items were purchased? Hey, $5, not bad... So here we go...
This looks great as is! See below for more!!!
First step is to attach the reindeer to the back of the message board. This is tricky because it is covered in glitter (which is why I thought a gloopy glue like Glue It that can hold up to very cold and hot temps would work for this-not get brittle, but my glue was too old), so I ended up adding Gorilla Super Glue and weighed it down while I took the tags off the other elements and played around with design. So this is the base for the other pieces.
Gather all of the decorations & start to play
This is the fun part-deciding where to put everything! Just keep moving things around and start gluing. What I ended up with is so different than what I had in my head at the store.
So this was my final design, I don't think the white kitchen walls do it justice though! It's very fun and the bells jingle too! But there's more...hohoho!
OK, so i added a little more...
Here it is in the door, and it fits perfectly in the top pane of the storm door. I also added a door mat and Santa footprints heading up to the chimney...(oh yea, we don't have a real fireplace...).
Finally a clear day I can show this to you!!!
OK, so the mat isn't my normal taste, but I wanted something to go with the theme. And I saw these footprints and cracked up...I used my trusty 2 sided carpet tape, but one fell off of the screened part later, so I moved them to the right side of the door and put them going up the siding...still really cute! Season's Greetings!
