I have never hung exterior lights for Christmas lights. What is the best clasp or nail, etc. to use for a rookie?

  • When I purchased my current home 18+ years ago, the first Christmas I took the time to install permanent cup hooks for the house lights. Now it takes me less than an hour to put them up and take them down.

Nails that don’t rust! Forget the kind. We own a Christmas decor company and use the shingle clips. No permanent damage. They slip on for decor and remove with lights after. We also use zip ties on post and black electrical tape. Zip ties can be merged together for really large posts. I use outdoor command hooks for front door wreaths on my glass but command hooks are expensive.

  • We've picked up clips at Home Depot that work well. We also use zip ties to secure them in place. They honestly work best.
