Styling Letter Boards

You may be seeing letter boards all over Pinterest, Instagram and Facebook. They are super cute. Are you wondering how people come up with the sayings or how they incorporate them into their home decor? Today I’ll be sharing some of my tips and tricks on how to use them.

First thing is to gather your materials. There are many different sizes, color options and styles of letter boards to choose from. There are also many different letter sizes, colors and fonts as well as specialty phrases and shapes.

• letter board {mine are 16 inches and 13 inches)

• letters {I have 1” and 2” letters in varying colors}

• a favorite quote or saying

That’s basically all you need. I have had my letter boards for a year or two- so I’m not sure how much the cost is exactly but I did look up an estimated cost for those who don’t have boards and letters yet.

Boards run anywhere from $15 to $35 depending on the size. Letters run anywhere from $6 to $12 a set (and up) depending on size and brand. I use DCWVE brand.

I like to change up my letter board sayings with the seasons. Sayings and quotes are everywhere you look. I like to go to Pinterest and look up “seasonal quotes” , or quotes from my favorite movies. Once I’ve found my quote, it’s time to find all the right letters and place them on the board. This is a lot of fun. You get to create the look of your board. You can center all the words or place them all to the right or all to the left. You can even make designs out of the letters and words, or use both sizes of letters in the same quote for added effect.

After I have my letters pressed onto the board, it’s time to find a spot for it. I like to look around and see what kind of decor I may have that will compliment the saying or the quote. In this case I went for a Christmas theme. In the photo above I placed it on my blanket ladder.

This spot in my house works well for this board. It’s in the front entry way where my family passes by multiple times a day and all our visitors see when they enter our home. I like to put encouraging quotes and funny quotes here.

For this one I had several nativities sitting on the buffet and I wanted a quote to speak of the Christmas nativity. I took a line from a song and put it on my letter board.

You could use these lines as well:

• All is Calm

• Silent Night, Holy Night

• Oh come let us adore Him

Once you start finding quotes it becomes easier to find decor to place around it to accent the message on the board.

I place my boards on buffets, blanket ladders, dresser tops, side tables, on the floor, on the mantle, under or near the Christmas tree, on the kitchen counter... the possibilities are endless.

Don’t be afraid to drape things over the top or on the side...like my hat above.

Here’s a few more winter quotes and lines you could use:

• SWEATER WEATHER? More like wrap up in a blanket and never leave weather.

• Dear Winter, I’m breaking up with you. It’s time I start seeing other seasons. Like Spring. He brings me flowers. -Me

• The 5 stages of winter:

denial

anger

bargaining

depression

April

• walking in a winter wonderland

This one I placed under the tree next to my larger manger. I liked the look of it. I have seen some who place their smaller letter boards on their tree branches... I haven’t tried that just yet.

Here’s a few more Christmas quotes:

• Deck the Halls like Chip and Joanna are watching

• Don’t get your tinsel in a tangle

• Let your heart be light

• it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas

• dreaming of a white Christmas

This one was talking about Santa so I decided to find Santa themed items to place around.

This is a fun way to change up decor in your home without breaking the bank and allowing you to personalize it too.

My suggestions are to make sure you have two sets of the same size letter for larger quotes. Or...you can mix the 1” and 2” letters for added effect. It’s fun to have different colors in case you want to highlight one of the words as well.

**I’ve had quite a few teachers ask me about my letter boards- they would be great in a class room too.**

**What if you don’t have a letter board and don’t want to purchase one?”

• you can always print off your quote on your computer or hand letter it, then place it in a frame.**

These letter boards are a fun way to get creative, spread some holiday cheer and decorate your home with.
