Ladders are versatile decor for your home - from blanket ladders, to chandeliers they are popping up all over your favorite stores! However, they can be pricey for vintage ones since they have grown in popularity, or if you find one it may not even fit your space. The solution - DIY a rustic ladder to the height and width you'd like! This is a super easy build you can do at home, they'd even make great gifts for the holiday.
Supplies for this project include:
  • Lath Strips
  • Furring Strips
  • Stain or Paint in the color of your choice
  • Paint Brush
  • Stapler/Nail Gun/Glue
  • Twine or decorative rope to embellish your ladder, if desired
Begin by cutting all your wood to length. You will need:

- THREE or FOUR Lath Strips - cut 10-16" wide according to the width of ladder you'd like and how many rungs
-TWO - 1"x2" Furring Strips - cut to your preferred ladder height (we did 4ft)

Next, lay your ladder out, measuring the spacing on the rungs you desire. The furring strips will be your sides and the lath strips will lay on top of those.
Using a stapler or nail gun add the rungs you cut from lath strips to the base you've cut from the furring strips.
Stain your assembled ladder. We used a 1" chip brush to paint on then wipe off with an old t-shirt or towel.
Once your stain is dry you can embellishing your ladder!
You can use twine or rope to wrap each rung, or even upholstery tacks to embellish your ladder to fit your decor.
Check out our page for ladder inspiration - they are great for more than just leaning. Think wall displays, front porch decor, mini sized for tea towels. The possibilities are endless!
Display your ladder proudly! This rustic ladder has all the farmhouse feels, it's lightweight which makes it easy to move around to create seasonal vignettes or use on table tops for layered & beautiful displays.
