Easy Modern House Number Update
Have you seen a product with such a simple design, but yet have been puzzled as to how in the heck to use it? I have. More than once…
This was me with those pretty modern number signs that stick out from the surface they are mounted on. I thought, “Like how is that possible? How do they stick IN the siding?” Well, let me tell ya, it’s actually super easy!! Here’s how!
At the cottage, there was a not so lovely old number sign hanging in the peak of the garage that just had to go!! I wanted a modern look so I went in search of some house numbers and found these 5” Hillman metal numbers at Menards. They sell them at Lowe’s and Amazon too :)
Step 1: Paint them any color you would like using enamel spray paint. I bought mine in whatever finish they had and then just spray painted them all matte black.
Step 2: Choose your location. I chose to install these right into the siding, but you could also add them to a decorative wood piece and then mount that to the siding.
Step 3: Tape the templates to your siding or to whatever material you are mounting them to. Be sure you use a level and also space them out evenly!!
Step 4: The template shows you exactly where to drill :) Pro tip: place a piece of masking tape on your drill bit so you know how deep to drill.
Step 5: Insert the supplied screws into each number. We had to use pliers to help us twist these in on a few of them.
Step 6: Squeeze a little bit of caulk into each hole you just drilled and clean up access with a baby wipe or rag.
Step 7: Insert each number using a mallet. You can cover the number with a wood block and then hammer the block so you do not damage the number. These easily went in!
The caulk will dry sealing the holes and will keep the numbers in place!

I spent a FORTUNE on new siding. Too many holes. On a board, yes, holes in the siding -no .

I think it looks great.
Using the caulk to firm up the mounting was a great idea. If you need to remove them you can always re-caulk and paint over. No biggie.
Love the thinking outside the box.
