I'll show you how to apply a greek key trim accent to any home decor item in this video tutorial. This ribbon detail adds sooooo much personality to any fabric home decor piece...drapes, pillows, napkins, table clothes, bags, etc. etc..

Iron heat and bond hem tape to the back of the ribbon. Leave the paper backing on the hem tape. It'll make the ribbon stiff and allow it to fold around the corners much easier.

Sketch out your design on a piece of paper. With the paper sketch at your side, sketch the design lightly on the fabric. I used a small ruler to loosely mark out the dimensions on the first corner. Then I pretty much eye-balled the adjacent corner.

Use some sort of straight edge to help you get exact creases at your folds. I used a flat head screwdriver and it worked like a charm.

Place pins at all the corners and along the long straight-aways.

Once you have the entire design pinned down, take the piece to the ironing board and carefully peel away the paper backing and press the ribbon with a steam iron to adhere it to the fabric. I peeled away about 12" at a time. In the corners, peel from corner to corner pressing between.

Last, take the piece to your sewing machine and sew the ribbon to your backer fabric. This seems like it'll take forever, but surprisingly it's rather quick. The video shows more detail.

You can do this! Add greek key ribbon trim to any home decor piece. For less than $10 you can have beautifully trimmed out pillows, drapes, table clothes, laundry bags, etc. etc.
