Take a bucket of warm water (warm makes for better adhesion and covering) and spray oil based paint on the surface of it, mixing colors. Latex paint will dissolve into the water, defeating the purpose. Next take your pinecone and tie the part that was attached to a tree to a string. Dip and swirl the pinecone into the paint on the surface until you get the color effect you like. Hang them up and let them drip dry. Fun project.
