I wanted to turn some clean champagne bottles into water bottles for my upcoming Thanksgiving table. I decided to give glass etching a try. I started with some clean champagne bottles. I wrote the word "water" on transfer paper and stuck it on the glass bottles. Then, I used my exacto knife and cut out the words on the transfer paper.
Next, I painted a thick coat of glass etching cream onto the bottles.
Next, I waited for 10 minutes for the cream to do it's work. Then I washed it off in the sink under hot water.
I left the bottles out to dry and then wiped them down to see the final product
They didn't etch exactly like I had hoped. I wanted a lighter, brighter script on the bottles, but it's not bad for a first effort. I'll be happy to pour water from them come the holiday. I think they'll do just fine!
Hope you like them! Go ahead and give it a try yourself!

Please, what exactly is transfer paper? If I go to a craft store and I ask for transfer paper they'll know what I'm talking about?

What if you used the clear wine bottle? You could use the commercial rubber or plastic stoppers that fit wine or champagne bottles.
