Golly gee—summer go away! I’m not gonna waste anymore time waiting for cooler weather… I’m just gonna start doing in hopes that cool will follow! In honor of our 3rd anniversary for our Bed & Breakfast, which we celebrated a couple weeks ago, we play games and give prizes. Which I love to do. I love giving! One of the prizes was a very cute tray. It’s an easy rustic whitewashed wood tray diy that I wanted to share today!

Very affordable but adorable for setting on a table, for serving, or just for decoration. Also makes a perfect gift for someone!

Rustic whitewashed wood tray diy

I started out with this blank piece of wood I bought at Walmart for $5 and two drawer pulls from Hobby Lobby for $1.50 each. But here’s what else you’ll need!

Supplies:

  • white acrylic paint
  • screwdriver
  • 2 drawer pulls
  • wood blank
  • sponge brush
  • vinyl decals & lettering (optional)
  • antique medium (optional)
  • sanding block
  • sealant

Steps:

Apply two whitewash coats of white acrylic by using a damp sponge brush. Lightly brush back and forth in long strokes and being careful not to have too much paint on the brush!

Allow to dry between coats and after second coat leave for 2 hours or longer before applying vinyl.

You could paint a quote or a design of your own at this point.

Once completed, screw in the handles and apply antique medium (optional). Now you’re ready for the sealant. I used the spray on kind. Allow to dry for several hours or overnight before using.

Now you’ve got yourself a handy and cute little rustic wood tray to use or decorate with.

You can even wrap it up and add some scented candles, a dishtowel or some charcuterie ingredients for a house warming gift!

I used one for a gift and added a dishtowel, and a coupon for one of our B&B brunches,

A fun and easy DIY that you can make for under $10! Happy weekend and go be creative!

Until next time~ 🖤
