We had some space on both sides of our television that demanded our attention. Most of our furniture is late 1800s vintage Chinese, a decor that is extremely difficult to work with in terms of design. Sooo, I decided to paint my own pieces. I did considerable research until I found a technique that I felt comfortable with and that was affordable.

A 1.5 inch spatula looks simple but it is a very important piece of equipment in the process. Tha spatula along with a 16x20 stretched canvas were the framework for my painting. I used a large trash bag to protect my work surface. This is very important to remember.

I chose three complimentary colors; blue, orange, and white. I used premium velvety finish acrylic paint.

The first step involves putting uniform squirts of paint on the canvas. This is very important because you will want the final painting to reflect balance.

Working from one side to the other I made 2 inch scrapes from top to bottom.

Once the canvas was completed, I used the paint overrun to cover all sides of the canvas.

My final piece now hangs prominently on our wall. As you can imagine, with the humid Florida weather, It took several days to dry, but it was worth the wait. Peace and happy DIYing.
